Meeting Minutes
PTO Meeting

October 10, 2007

HSS Activities Room. In attendance:  Beth Zuttermeister, Heather Ballard, Susan Desrosiers, Judy Garino, Rajneesh Jain, PK Jain, Andy Mellow, Jodi Gilligan, Ann Wheeler, Chris Axten, Sierra MacDonald, Melissa Martin, Chris Haidari, and Deidre McHugh-Tichner

Fall Festive Wrap-Up:
Jodi reported a $548 profit from the fall festival. Darts, Chili cook off, others went well. Tent for bake sale was suggested for next year. Ask Nancy Peavey at HSS?

Fundraiser Issues:
Concern was raised over the “bear” prize and the addresses that the parents were asked to supply.  It was pointed out the company has been in business for 40 years and those with experience with them have had no negative issues.  Discussion continued on how the company presented to the children and the confusion it caused.

Playground at SSS:
Jodi presented on behalf of SSS Principal, Scott Bouranis.  Some equipment has been removed by the Recreation Department.  Bubble house has yet to be removed, then the company from Massachusetts will come in and install. The Timken Foundation donated $22,700, the PTO has donated $18,700. Mr. Bouranis has put money in the next year’s budget for the landscaping issues.

Dr. Michael Harris, Superintendent of Schools
The proposal is underway for a new Junior High School.  The school board decided to have the architect proceed for 7th & 8th grades.  The new building will be built on the current site.  The school district will apply for a waiver from the State as the land size will be less than required for meeting state minimum standards.  Invitations have been made to the public to join the committee for the project.

The estimated cost of the project is $20M, with the state reimbursing 35%.

Dr. Harris expects to have drawings on the project.  The public meeting for a vote will occur in March on the project schedule.  If the project is approved, it could start as early as the spring with anticipated opening of fall 2009.

Plans for the Year:
Mystery Dinner Theater is being planned for January.  Anyone interested in acting would be welcome.  Audience will participate.  The play will go on during the dinner.  We are waiting on confirmation that the PTO can use the Hanover Street activities room and the cafeteria.

Movie Night: Movie Night could be held at Hanover Street as the High School has a license for showing movies.  The issue to resolve is food.  Charge may only be for food.  No dates have been set.

Mini Grants:
We have received one application so far.  This program kicks off in November.

Other Issues:
Beth brought up a suggestion to have a parent representative from each grade level to represent input from teachers in those grade levels.

Next Meeting is November 13th. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25pm.
